Red Leaf

He had been watering the plant since it sprouted up. Initial growth was accomplished by rain while subsequent growth was led forth by river water. It had grown enough to bear fruit but fruit was never sought.
.
.
Absurd desire begets absurd deeds.
.
.
Knife ran over skin, a drop of blood fell in a bucketful of water; 'perhaps Red will seep in through veins and a red leaf will take birth'-he thought.
.
.
Droplets drained for days. Wastage stepped up but leaves, still grew green and lush.
.
.
Enough of red moistened the ground around the base. Dying leaves were flying down while sun shone bright on green buds. His Skin borne the marks of knife and now they were burning.
.
.
One night he was writhing in pain under the Moon while his blood soaked shirt and deeply cut wounds pleaded for him.
.
.
A caressing hand over his hair was soothing but curiosity overtook it. He sat up; a piercing glance of an old man was running over his wounds.
.
.
"I've some herbs that can cure you."
.
.
A veneer of green herbs covered every inch of his skin and when done he spooned down a thick mix of the same. It tasted sweet.
.
.
Next morning the agonizing pain receded and so did the marks. But His absurd desire was yet to take a leave.
.
.
Upon running the knife over his hand he bled Green. Deeper the knife ran greener the bucket went.
.
.
After leaning over the bucket and perceiving his reflection, he found himself greener than the tree itself.
.
.
The old man was perceiving everything from the tree top.
.
